The People's Committee of Thuong Tin Commune is gathering opinions on the detailed plan for the Olympic Sports Urban Area - Zone B, featuring the Lac Viet Stadium with a 135,000-seat capacity proposed by Vingroup.
The People's Committee of Thuong Tin Commune (Hanoi) has just announced the public posting and is seeking feedback from agencies, organizations, individuals, and the community on the 1/500 scale detailed planning project for the Olympic Sports Urban Area - Zone B.
Previously, on December 8, the People's Committee of Thuong Tin Commune reported receiving a document from Vingroup requesting cooperation to gather opinions from relevant parties regarding this planning project.
The entire Olympic Sports Urban Area covers about 10,000 hectares, within a larger planning research area spanning over 16,100 hectares.
Zone B covers more than 3,118 hectares, located in the communes of Thuong Tin, Tam Hung, Thuong Phuc, and Dan Hoa, with an expected population of approximately 186,760 people. This zone allocates over 1,700 hectares for residential land, developing 3-4 story townhouses and villas, along with apartment buildings up to 21 stories high (accommodating over 13,000 residents). Additionally, it will include functional facilities such as squares, shopping centers, hotels, hospitals, and resorts ranging from mid to high-end to serve athletes and tourists.
The highlight of the urban area is its large-scale sports facilities, most notably the Dong Drum Stadium with a seating capacity of 135,000. The design is inspired by the Đông Sơn drum and the mythical Lac bird.
If completed as planned, Dong Drum Stadium will be one of the world’s largest stadiums, second only to North Korea’s Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, which reportedly holds up to 150,000 spectators.
In Vietnam, the largest stadium remains My Dinh with about 40,000 seats. In October, the Ministry of Public Security broke ground on the PVF Stadium in Hung Yen with a capacity of 60,000 seats on a 5.5-hectare site. The project is managed by Vinhomes as the general contractor.
Besides the Dong Drum Stadium, Zone B of the Olympic Sports Urban Area also includes other large-scale facilities such as the Global Aquatic Arena, Vietnam Sports Tower, and the E-Sports Mega Arena.
Once operational, this will become a leading international sports complex, hosting world-class venues to hold major events like the Olympics, World Cup, ASIAD, FINA World Aquatics Championships, PGA Golf, World E-Sports, as well as cultural and artistic programs, concerts, and large-scale international shows.
