Rashford: 'Barcelona offers me what Manchester United no longer can'

Marcus Rashford recently revealed his new life in Barcelona and is enjoying the chance to contribute to the community that warmly welcomed him.

A star contracted to Manchester United, currently playing for Barcelona on loan, has quickly integrated into Hansi Flick’s squad and is enjoying the new culture in Spain. On December 10, he visited two local facilities as part of Barcelona Foundation’s community outreach program.

Rashford, who earned widespread praise during the Covid-19 period for campaigning to provide free meals to children and influencing the UK government to change its policies, had a meaningful day helping disadvantaged kids. He visited Escola Vedruna Angels and the Submari Community Center, places supporting vulnerable children under the care of the Barca Foundation.

There, Rashford shared: “All my teammates welcomed me warmly, and I feel great living in this city. This is the first time I’ve lived away from Manchester, but I’m starting to feel at home. I want to learn more Spanish, and I’m trying hard.”

The English forward also gifted children his book titled “You Are a Champion” and joined them in playing rondo and football. He added: “Since I was young, I’ve tried to help in situations like this. I’m very happy to be here today. Even though I’m in a new country, what matters most to me is understanding the people here so I can start contributing. It’s a wonderful day and a great opportunity for me and the kids. I hope this isn’t the last time I do this.”

In an interview with the BBC, Rashford expressed his appreciation for his new club: “I have always been a fan of Spanish football. Wearing the jersey of Spain’s biggest club is a huge honor. I’m eager to play more games, give my best, and help the team win. This club demands a lot. The environment constantly pushes us to be the best versions of ourselves, so Barcelona is truly the perfect place for a player.”

Rashford is adapting well in Spain and is gradually learning the local language. He joined Barcelona on a 12-month loan since July, with a purchase option of £30.3 million (35 million euros) in 2026.

After falling out of favor and being in the “excluded group” at Man United under coach Ruben Amorim, Rashford’s chances of returning to his former club are nearly zero. So far, the English striker has impressed at Barcelona with 6 goals and 8 assists in 21 appearances.
