Salah risks being "barred" from the Saudi Pro League if his agent violates the league's regulations.
Mohamed Salah's future is hotter than ever as multiple Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly ready to “do whatever it takes” to sign the Liverpool legend. However, according to The New York Times, Salah could be blacklisted from the entire league if his agent violates a very strict transfer regulation.
The crisis erupted after Salah's shocking interview last weekend. The Egyptian forward accused Liverpool of "throwing him under the bus," confirmed that his relationship with coach Arne Slot has broken down, and accused the club of breaking promises despite recently signing a new contract worth nearly £400,000 per week.
When asked about the possibility of moving to the Saudi Pro League in January, Salah simply replied: “I don't want to answer because the club will direct me in another way.”.
At the World Football Summit in Saudi Arabia, SPL CEO Omar Mugharbel confirmed that Salah is a target for major clubs including Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, and Al Qadsiah.
“Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League. We definitely want him,” Mugharbel said.
However, behind this ambition lies a regulation that requires clubs and Salah himself to be extremely cautious. The SPL mandates that any player earning $3 million or more annually must be approved by the organizers. More importantly, if a player or agent is found to be using a Saudi Pro League club as a bargaining chip to increase wages from another club, they will be immediately blacklisted by the league.
Given Salah is one of the world's highest-valued players, any bargaining move by his agent could completely derail the deal. This is certainly a critical warning for Salah’s representatives.
Currently, Salah has scored 250 goals for Liverpool, ranking third in the club's history, but his future at Anfield is more uncertain than ever. He was excluded from the squad for the recent Champions League match against Inter Milan as an internal disciplinary measure, it is unclear if Liverpool will impose further sanctions on their legend.
