Vietnam National Team vs Myanmar: Trusting the 'Steel Roses' (4:00 PM, December 5th, live on FPT Play)

Not only does the match against Myanmar determine the semifinal spot, it is also a chance for Coach Mai Đức Chung's team to demonstrate the spirit of four-time consecutive SEA Games champions.

Myanmar enters the final round with a flawless 6 points from two wins against the Philippines and Malaysia. Under Coach Tetsuro Uki, the team plays energetic football focused on speed and counterattacks. Their 4-3-3 setup is based on a strong central defensive pair, two quick wingers, and a well-built striker, allowing Myanmar to launch rapid offensive moves at any time.

Myanmar’s key strength lies in striker Win Tun, who has an ideal physique, excellent shielding, and aerial skills. On the flank, forward Shan Thaw is particularly dangerous with her acceleration and skillful control. Most notably, their crossing and heading plays—Myanmar’s specialty—closely resemble the style of the Philippines.

This is a clear warning to Vietnam’s defense that Myanmar possesses forwards capable of exerting heavy pressure in aerial situations, which previously challenged Coach Mai Đức Chung’s players during the match against the Philippines.

Kim Thanh and her teammates must enter the match with full concentration. The three-player defense, especially the central cover role, must stay alert to early crosses or deliveries into the number 5 zone. Right-back Trần Thị Duyên should also avoid uncontrolled forward runs, as the space behind her could be exploited by Myanmar.

Nevertheless, the Vietnam women's team has many reasons to be optimistic. Compared to the Philippines—a team with many tall, strong players favoring aerial play—Myanmar’s style is "easier to handle" when Vietnam attacks. Myanmar usually struggles to control the game; their 3-0 win over Malaysia only happened when they had a player advantage. Thus, Coach Mai Đức Chung’s team still holds the advantage before this direct confrontation.

The Vietnam women's team will find ample space in midfield to smoothly execute group plays, creating an ideal setting for Thanh Nhã to sprint forward, while Bích Thùy, Hải Yến, and Thái Thị Thảo launch dangerous shots.

Historical matchups further strengthen their confidence. While the Philippines have been Vietnam’s "nemesis" in recent years, Myanmar has long been wary of facing Huỳnh Như and her teammates. For decades, Myanmar has consistently lost to Vietnam in crucial matches—from the 3-1 group stage win at SEA Games 32 to the 2-0 final victory securing the gold medal—Vietnam has always shown superior experience.

Although Myanmar has progressed, they are often halted by the technical and disciplined style of the Vietnamese girls. Spirit will be the most important factor. Despite a recent loss to the Philippines, the team quickly regained composure. Bích Thùy said: "We were quite sad but have lifted our spirits to prepare for the match against Myanmar. The whole team is united and determined for the final game."

The journey atSEA Games 33has revealed the strong determination of the Vietnamese girls. Traveling 40 km daily for training and spending over 4 hours for a 90-minute session is a huge challenge. These difficulties go beyond the technical aspects, but the team has not lost its fighting spirit. Believing in their history, resilience, and own strength, the Vietnam women's team has enough reason to continue writing the story of the "steel roses."
