Tottenham player receives a severe third penalty for doping violation

Tottenham Hotspur is at risk of addressing Yves Bissouma's case for the third time in just eighteen months after the Malian midfielder was once more linked to doping allegations.

The latest incident surfaced when Bissouma was suspected of using banned substances, captured in a widely circulated video.

A Tottenham spokesperson stated: "We are reviewing the matter and will handle it as an internal issue." This is not Bissouma's first trouble related to doping. Previously, he was suspended for one match at the start of last season, causing him to miss the 1-1 draw against Leicester City. This stemmed from the player himself posting a video of doping on social media.

The incident occurred just hours after a preseason friendly against Bayern Munich, raising questions about the player's discipline. After the scandal broke, Bissouma apologized, admitting his behavior was "seriously thoughtless," while emphasizing his awareness of the health risks of doping and his role as a player and role model for youth.

Possession and use of doping substances are illegal under UK law. These substances have been classified as Category C since 2023, as part of the government's plan to combat antisocial behavior.

Despite the scandal, Bissouma still contributed significantly to Tottenham winning the Europa League last season. He stood out with four tackles, two interceptions, six clearances, and one blocked shot, helping secure the first major trophy of his career.

However, Bissouma’s current season has become even more turbulent. Coach Thomas Frank excluded him from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against PSG due to repeated lateness during preseason preparations. Frank emphasized: "Players need to be cared for but must also be accountable for their actions. This time there are clear consequences, and the situation will be monitored upon his return."

In addition to disciplinary issues, Bissouma has struggled with multiple injuries, including one sustained while playing for the Mali national team. Given the current circumstances, the midfielder’s near future at Tottenham is uncertain, forcing the club to carefully consider their next steps.
