Southeast Asian fans consider the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) too obstinate for submitting an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
On the morning of December 8th, Malaysian media outlets simultaneously reported that the country's Football Association (FAM) has officially lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the sanctions imposed by FIFA on the federation and seven naturalized Malaysian players.
FAM’s move quickly attracted significant attention from the Southeast Asian public. Most fans in the region, including Malaysians, believe the Football Association of Malaysia is being too stubborn and that their chance to "turn the situation around" is almost nonexistent. On Southeast Asian football forums, fans from various countries commented:
"If you’re wrong, just admit it. FIFA has rejected all of Malaysia’s claims", wrote an Indonesian supporter.
"Doing this will only make Malaysia a laughingstock worldwide."
"I don’t know what evidence Malaysia really has to fight at CAS when these players have been clearly proven to have no Malaysian roots. This matter should have been settled quietly last month."
"Hopefully, FIFA will impose even harsher penalties on FAM. They show no respect for the rules."
"Did Malaysia intentionally submit the appeal right before the deadline to buy time?" another fan questioned.
"FAM really doesn’t know what shame is; they always think they are right and never wrong."
According to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), FAM’s legal representatives have 10 days (until December 18, 2025) to submit all necessary documents and full statements. Meanwhile, FAM emphasizes its commitment to handling the case professionally, transparently, and with full respect for all legal procedures.
FAM makes unusual move, is Malaysia’s national team about to forfeit 0-3 to Vietnam? Although the deadline is near, the Football Association of Malaysia has yet to provide any information about the appeal to CAS. Many predict there is a high chance Malaysia’s national team will be ruled to lose two matches against Vietnam and Nepal. See more
