Real Madrid’s key player, Jude Bellingham, experienced bleeding following an elbow hit to the area above his right eye in the game versus Celta Vigo.
The incident took place in the second half, during Real Madrid’s surprising 0-2 home defeat to Celta Vigo in the early hours of December 8. While contesting the ball with Borja Iglesias, Celta’s striker swung his left elbow into the English international’s face. Blood immediately flowed from the cut, forcing Bellingham to leave the field for medical treatment provided by Real’s staff.
Ironically, shortly after returning to the pitch, Bellingham received a yellow card. He was penalized for entering the field before the referee gave permission. Minutes after Bellingham’s incident, Real Madrid faced further setbacks when Fran Garcia was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. Both cautions for the defender occurred within a single minute, forcing Real to play with ten men.
The troubles didn’t end there. In the 91st minute, left-back Alvaro Carreras received a yellow card, and just one minute later, he was also sent off. Subsequently, Endrick lost his temper with the assistant referee after Carreras’ dismissal, resulting in Real Madrid’s third red card. This was a night to forget for Los Blancos. Williot Swedberg became Celta Vigo’s hero by scoring twice, handing Real their second defeat in 16 rounds this season.
The opening goal came spectacularly in the 54th minute: Bryan Zaragoza delivered a low cross from the left flank, and Swedberg executed a skillful backheel that beat Thibaut Courtois. The 21-year-old midfielder completed his brace in the second half’s second added minute. He combined neatly to break through Real’s patchy defense, outpaced Courtois, and calmly scored into an open net.
This victory marked Celta Vigo’s first win over Real Madrid in La Liga since May 2014, ending a 22-match winless streak against them. The loss left Real Madrid four points behind Barcelona, who had beaten Real Betis 5-3 on Sunday (December 7).
