The father of Barcelona's promising youngster, Lamine Yamal, faced allegations of "inciting Real Betis supporters" amid a heated incident in the stands during Barca's La Liga win on the morning of December 7th.
In this match, Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick, while Yamal and Roony Bardghji also found the net, helping the Catalan side overcome Betis in a game with a total of eight goals and extending their lead over Real Madrid to 4 points.
Flick started Yamal against Betis alongside Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres, as veteran striker Robert Lewandowski was rested. Torres shone with a first-half hat-trick after the home team took the lead through Antony. Newcomer Roony Bardghji also scored his first La Liga goal, putting Barca ahead 4-1 at halftime. In the 59th minute, Barca earned a penalty which Yamal converted, making it 5-1. Betis later scored twice through Diego Llorente and Cucho Hernandez, but Barca secured an important victory.
However, while Yamal was excelling on the field, his father got involved in trouble in the stands. According to reporter Yago de Vega from Carrusel Deportivo, the atmosphere around where he was seated became tense as he deliberately engaged in actions considered provocative towards nearby Betis fans. These gestures angered the crowd, leading to verbal exchanges and chaos.
A security staff member had to approach and ask Yamal’s father to calm down. Yago added (via Cadena SER): “I just asked a friend who was there, and he said the situation has now settled. But at one point, he thought something serious might happen.”
Yamal’s recent form has been outstanding. The 18-year-old scored against Elche, Celta Vigo, and Alaves, and also provided two assists in the win over Athletic Club. In total, during November, he scored 3 goals and made 3 assists, leading La Liga in assists (8). As a result, Yamal surpassed big names like Mbappé and Griezmann to win the Player of the Month award.
Despite his young age, Yamal is regarded as the “heir to Messi.” Speaking about his journey, he shared: “In the neighborhood where I used to play, there were walls where people would sit and watch. There’s nothing better than making them stand up and laugh because of a play I made. When I play, I feel the same when I surprise the crowd. I don’t feel pressure. My family has gone through tougher times.”
“Football means everything to me; it’s my first love. I don’t think I’ve ever felt pressure playing the game. My parents are the ones who really felt pressure when they were young: worrying about family, work, and happiness. That’s the real pressure to me.”
