Manchester United star criticizes the Red Devils' style of play

Following the frustrating 1-1 draw with West Ham, defender Diogo Dalot candidly pointed out the problem that leads Manchester United to consistently lose points even when they are ahead on their home ground.

Defender Diogo Dalot spoke out after Manchester United's disappointing 1-1 draw against West Ham at Old Trafford, where the home team once again squandered a winning position despite holding the lead.

Dalot scored the opening goal for the Red Devils in the 58th minute, which seemed to set the team up for a continued winning streak following their victory over Crystal Palace. However, a lack of focus in the final minutes allowed Soungoutou Magassa to equalize, causing Manchester United to miss another chance to break into the Champions League qualification spots.

Speaking after the match on Sky Sports, the Portuguese defender did not hide his disappointment: “It’s clearly frustrating. We needed to control the game better, especially playing at Old Trafford. After scoring the first goal, the team became nervous and careless with ball possession. That shouldn’t happen when we had the match in our hands.”

Dalot admitted that Manchester United lacks consistency and composure to maintain control after taking the lead, which causes them to repeatedly drop points at crucial moments: “We have to find a solution to this inconsistency. We can’t fight hard for 60 minutes to score and then lose our rhythm. Once ahead, we need to keep possession, stay in control, and be ready to regain the ball if we lose it,” he analyzed.

The 26-year-old also pointed out systemic mistakes that led to the equalizer: “The goal we conceded came from a simple situation in the corner where we should have dealt with it better. We know West Ham is dangerous on counterattacks, but we didn’t act decisively. This draw is more due to our own errors than their good play.”

Dalot emphasized that if Manchester United keeps dropping points in key matches, their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League will vanish: “At this stage, every team is close together. But if we keep losing points like this, the gap to the top 4 will widen. We have to win, especially in home games like this.”

With the draw against West Ham, the Red Devils remain mid-table in the Premier League, nine points behind the leading group. Ruben Amorim faces significant pressure as Manchester United shows inconsistent form, alternating good and poor performances, and lacks clear tactical identity: “We need to change how we control the game. We can’t keep going like this,” Dalot concluded with a determined tone.
