Manchester United's new rising star has decided to request a transfer, missing out on appearances during a week with two matches! Amorelin explains the reasons for not playing.

Manchester United unusually had two matches in one week, yet 20-year-old English midfielder Cody Meno did not play a single minute in the 1-1 Premier League draw against West Ham. Coupled with only a one-minute substitute appearance against Crystal Palace, this will strengthen his resolve to seek a transfer in the January winter window. Napoli from Serie A and Arsenal from the Premier League have recently been linked with him.

Because Eden Havin started against West Ham, Meno became one of only four first-team players who have never started a match, alongside Tyrell Malacia from the "Fab Five," third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton, and the recently recovered Lisandro Martinez. Such a situation is unlikely to satisfy Meno.

Amorelin has always believed that Meno is a direct rival to club captain Bruno Fernandes rather than a teammate who can play alongside him, making it difficult for the young Red Devils academy star to break into the starting lineup. Most agree, as a midfield pairing of Meno and Bruno in a 3-4-3 would certainly be a dream for opposing players.

This week, when asked if Meno would get chances before January, Amorelin replied, "We will wait and see. We can talk about Cody Meno and also about Ugarte, who also didn't play. Zirkzee got his chance due to injuries in the squad. Professional football is like that; when opportunity comes, you must be ready. I just want to win games and don't focus on others' expressions."

After the match against West Ham, Amorelin was criticized for being too defensive when leading 1-0, making four defensive substitutions, with Mason Mount being the only attacking player among the substitutes who came on.

Manchester United used all five substitutions in this game. At halftime, Lenny Joro replaced Eden Havin, Diogo Dalot was substituted by Patrick Dogu after scoring, followed by Ugarte and Mount coming on for Cunha and Zirkzee respectively. With two minutes left, Amorelin brought on Lima for Luke Shaw.

Thus, this marks the fourth time this season that Meno has been on the bench in the Premier League without playing a single minute, angering his fans. Even Manchester United’s official website couldn’t help but directly ask Amorelin: "We know your options are limited, but what about Cody?"

In response, Amorelin hinted that Meno’s attacking and defensive abilities are not outstanding. "We lost because we failed to control the second ball, sometimes not having enough players to contest it. Do we have more players who can attack? Who? Are they better offensively?"

He added, "I was focused on competing for the second ball. I was concerned about Mateus (Cunha). I know Bruno (Fernandes) is excellent at passing near the box, and Mount can find space, so I tried that. The opponent was pressing us, Brian (Mbemo) is very fast and might have won the ball in a transition, so I made those substitutions."

Serie A defending champions Napoli have already contacted Meno’s agent to discuss a possible January transfer. Under Conte, De Bruyne will be out for several months, Billy Gilmour requires surgery, and Anguissa is also struggling with injuries. Napoli urgently need a new midfielder and are eager to acquire Meno, having wanted him since the summer window.

Manchester United’s stance will be crucial. The club has consistently insisted they do not want to lose Meno, but if they bring in a new midfielder in the winter window, his status may decline further, potentially leading the Red Devils to change their attitude and possibly approve his transfer.
