On July 23, Beijing time, the Houston Rockets officially announced that they have signed free agent guard Josh Okogie. According to previous reports from insider Shams, the Rockets and Okogie have agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.1 million.

Okogie stands 1.93 meters tall and was selected 20th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2018 NBA Draft after his sophomore year at Georgia Tech. Over seven NBA seasons, he has played in 416 games, starting in 167 of them, averaging 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.93 steals in 19.1 minutes per game. He will be teammates with Durant once again.

Okogie began last season with the Suns before being traded to the Hornets in mid-January. In the 40 games he played for both the Suns and the Hornets, Okogie averaged 1.20 steals in 15.6 minutes of playing time. Dating back to the 1995-96 season, he became the second player, after Alvarado in the 2021-22 season, to average at least 1.20 steals per game while playing at least 40 games and averaging less than 16.0 minutes per game in a single season. Among players who played at least 40 games in the 2024-25 season, Okogie ranks fourth in steals per 36 minutes (2.8).

Okogie was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and represented the Nigerian national team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Upon joining the Rockets, he immediately expressed, "Houston is a big deal now!"
After signing Okogie, team reporter Bradeaux updated social media, stating, "The wingspan of the Rockets is simply amazing... There are 10 players with a wingspan of 7 feet (2.13 meters) or more—
