The Chicago Bulls officially announced a signing and a cut: Yuki Kawamura has signed a two-way contract after impressing the team with his performance in the Summer League.

On July 20, Beijing time, the Chicago Bulls announced today that they have signed guard Yuki Kawamura to a two-way contract. In conjunction with this move, the Bulls have waived guard Jameer Young.

Standing at 1.73 meters, Yuki Kawamura represented the Bulls in five games during the 2025 Summer League, averaging 23.9 minutes on the court, with contributions of 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals. He led the team with a total of 31 assists, ranking second in Bulls history for a single Summer League event since at least 2013; additionally, he was one of only three players in the 2025 Summer League to average at least 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Notably, in a game against the Jazz, Kawamura recorded 20 points and 10 assists, hitting 6 out of 9 three-pointers.

During the 2024-25 season, Yuki Kawamura played 22 games for the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 4.2 minutes per game, with 1.6 points and 0.9 assists. In his rookie season, he had two double-digit scoring performances, including setting a career-high of 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a game against the Dallas Mavericks on April 13.

This player from Yanai City, Japan, also played for the Memphis Hustle, the G League affiliate of the Grizzlies, during the 2024-25 season. In 24 G League regular season games, he averaged 31.0 minutes, scoring 12.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, and was selected for the G League "Future Stars Game" held during the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. In the G League regular season, Kawamura's average assists (7.8) ranked sixth in the league, with 14 games where he delivered at least 5 assists; notably, on February 26, in a game against the Stockton Kings, he achieved an impressive 11 points and 16 assists, with 16 assists marking a new career high in the G League.

Before entering the NBA, Yuki Kawamura played five seasons in Japan's B League (2019-24), competing for the Shanxi Xinfeng Phoenix (2019-20) and the Yokohama B-Corsairs (2020-24) in 167 games, averaging 27.1 minutes, 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. In the 2022-23 season, he won the highest honor in the B League, the regular season MVP, with an average of 19.5 points and 8.4 assists, and was also named the best guard of the season in the B League.

Yuki Kawamura has been selected to the B League's best five players twice and has been a member of the Japanese national men's basketball team since the 2021-22 season. His national team experience includes competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he averaged 20.3 points, ranking third among all participants, and averaged 7.7 assists, tied for third, making him the only player in the Paris Olympics to average at least 20.0 points and 7.0 assists.
