24-15! A reality check for Durant! A blockbuster trade that turned out hugely profitable

The Suns, with a 24-15 record, have risen to sixth place in the West’s playoff spots, while the Rockets, at 22-14, have slipped into the play-in region.

Last offseason saw a significant trade when the Suns traded Durant to the Rockets for Dillon, Jalen Green, and more.

It was assumed that after this trade, the Rockets would take off, and the Suns would be heading down to secure a top draft pick.

But as mentioned, the Suns have actually done better without KD...

According to statistics,Durant joined the Suns late in the 22-23 season, and over more than two seasons, the team’s record was 93-79 (a 54% win rate), while this season the Suns’ win rate so far is 61.5%.

The reason the Suns have impressed this season is undoubtedly due to Dillon’s arrival. He has averaged 30.6 minutes per game, contributing 21.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals, with shooting percentages of 45.6%, 35.6%, and 84.9%. His scoring average is a career-high, making him Booker’s best teammate and the team’s undisputed second star.

Moreover, Dillon’s addition has brought a long-missed toughness to the Suns, who have led the league with a defensive efficiency of 106.8 since Christmas.Following closely are the Pistons at 107.8, Spurs at 108.3, Rockets at 108.9, and Thunder at 109.4.

Frankly speaking, although Dillon’s talent and status don’t compare to Durant’s, the impact he has made on the Suns surpasses that of KD.

As for Jalen Green, due to injuries, he has only played two games this season, averaging 15 minutes with 15.5 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. During his four seasons with the Houston Rockets, he had two full seasons, but he may be struggling to adapt in Phoenix.

In summary, the Suns are likely to secure a direct playoff spot this season, whereas last season, despite having the trio of Durant, Booker, and Beal, they failed to make the playoffs.

Repeated examples prove that overloading on star players isn’t always the best strategy; the right players fitting into the right team can create the greatest sparks.
