Trouble for Morant, trouble indeed! Possibly the NBA's second major trade star.

Insider Shams:The Grizzlies are contemplating moving Morant and will entertain trade offers for the first time ahead of the February 6 trade deadline this season.

This season, Morant has appeared in only 18 of the Grizzlies' 38 games (16-22, ranked tenth in the Western Conference), averaging 28.3 minutes per game,posting 19 points, 3.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 3.6 turnovers, and 1 steal per game, with shooting splits of 40.1%, 20.8%, and 90%, marking his lowest scoring average since his rookie year.He has also previously had conflicts with the coaching staff.

Since entering the NBA as the second overall pick in 2019, his shooting ability has declined year after year; this season, he has become an easily defenseless player, and as is well known, guards without shooting skills struggle to succeed in today's league.

According to statistics,In the games Morant has played this season, the Grizzlies hold a 6-12 record....Just a few days ago, the Hawks traded away an All-Star guard who was holding back the team's performance to the Wizards.

Furthermore, Morant's attendance over recent years has been extremely poor; from the 2023-24 season to the present, he has played only 77 regular-season games across three seasons, with off-court issues but mostly due to recurring injuries, having visited hospitals more often than stepping onto the court.

Frankly speaking, Morant can no longer be considered an All-Star caliber player; for the Grizzlies, he has become a liability with very limited trade value. So far, no team has shown strong interest in acquiring him. His current contract runs through 2028, with a salary of $39.45 million this season and a combined $87.06 million over the next two seasons.

However, no matter what, Morant remains a highly popular player with enormous influence among the younger generation. If he is indeed traded, the shockwave would be comparable to Trae Young’s trade, and it would certainly dominate NBA social media buzz.

After all, Morant once enjoyed great success; in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, he led the Grizzlies to finish second in the Western Conference regular season standings and was considered a new face of the NBA. Unfortunately, various scandals and, most importantly, a stagnation in his skill development have led to him becoming nearly discarded now.

Many prodigies burst onto the scene, but few achieve greatness; most fade away quickly.
