No more playing! Anthony Davis suffers a severe hand injury! The NBA's most fragile star

It's over, it's over.

Insider Shams:Anthony Davis has suffered a ligament injury in his left hand. Surgery could mean missing several months, essentially ending his season; even without surgery, he must rest for at least six weeks.

From the middle of last season when he was traded from the Lakers to the Mavericks until now, Davis has faced a series of injuries including groin, eye, calf, and hand problems, making him the hospital’s favorite VIP client.

Statistics show that over two seasons, Davis has played only 29 games for the Mavericks, averaging 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game; meanwhile, Luka Doncic, who was traded to the Lakers in exchange, has appeared in 56 games, averaging 30.9 points, 8 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game.

Throughout his 14-season NBA career, Davis has only managed to play 65 or more games in five seasons (13-14, 14-15, 16-17, 17-18, and 23-24), clearly a fragile player—so fragile that even riding over a speed bump on a bus might injure him. Both the Lakers and Mavericks have reasons to want to trade him.

However, Davis is truly fragile but also incredibly talented. The Mavericks currently stand 11th in the Western Conference with a 14-24 record. When Davis is absent, the team’s record drops to 4-14. During this time, he has averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game, remaining one of the league’s best all-around All-Star big men when healthy.

Back to the point, Davis was already put on the trading block by the Mavericks early on. Now, with this unexpected severe injury, potential buyers might hesitate, or try to lower their offers. It remains to be seen how determined the Mavericks are to make a trade.

The latest news indicates,Davis is also interested in leaving the Mavericks before the trade deadline on February 6th this seasonbecause the team cannot guarantee him a four-year, $275 million max contract extension this summer. A new team might offer that, with the Hawks—who just traded away Trae Young—being the closest to signing him.

Who would have thought that the towering pillar who brought the Lakers a championship in 2020 would now be living such a turbulent life?
