On January 3rd Beijing time, James’ agent Rich Paul explicitly stated that there is no feasible way for his client James to be traded from the Lakers to the Warriors at this time.

During the podcast, host Kellerman brought up a recent discussion by Bill Simmons of The Ringer about the Warriors’ capability to arrange a trade to pair James with Curry.
Rich Paul responded very straightforwardly: “I don’t want to talk about it. This simply won’t happen, so why discuss something impossible?”
Rumors about the Warriors’ interest in acquiring James have been around for a long time. As early as August, reporter Fischer reported that over the past 18 months, the Warriors had “repeatedly contacted” the Lakers in hopes of bringing James to join Curry.

The only time James and Curry officially played as teammates was at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, where they jointly led the USA men’s basketball team to a gold medal.
Although they were the oldest players on the team, they were also the top performers — James was named the tournament MVP, while Curry made countless clutch shots in the semifinals against Serbia and the gold medal game against France.
As two of the greatest players in NBA history, teaming up in the league would have been a legendary story. But now one can’t help but wonder if that possibility has long since passed.
At 41 years old, James is the oldest active player in the NBA, and his performance seems to be finally declining as his career approaches its end.

At the start of the 2025-26 season, James missed several games due to sciatica. After returning from injury, he has not regained his former dominance, averaging only 20.3 points over 15 games, marking a career low.
Perhaps James’ declining form might make the Lakers more open to trade offers, but considering his status in NBA history and his choice to stay in Los Angeles for the past eight years, the team management is likely loyal to him and unwilling to trade him lightly.
Additionally, the Lakers may hope that the partnership between James and Doncic lasts until the end, expecting them to bring a championship trophy to Los Angeles.
