Mavericks and Hawks negotiate Davis trade! Insider lists 5-team proposal: Klay returns to Warriors + Young heads to Kings

On December 31st Beijing time, according to insider Siegel, league sources revealed that the Hawks have since engaged in direct talks with the Mavericks regarding a trade for Davis. Although most in the league believe the Hawks won’t go all-in for Davis at this time, the team clearly sees this Mavericks star big man as the centerpiece they need in a trade.

Sources say that given Porzingis’s ongoing health concerns, the Hawks are open to moving him and have also told the Mavericks they are willing to include the 2024 first overall pick, Richaun Holmes, as part of the package to acquire Davis.

Despite Davis’s injury struggles since arriving at the Mavericks last season as the key piece in the Luka trade, his on-court talent is undeniable. Hawks GM Onyeka Okongwu has already demonstrated decisiveness in both free agency and trades, bringing in Porzingis and Alexander-Walker during his first offseason in charge.

However, the Hawks started the 2025-26 season with a 15-19 record and suffered a seven-game losing streak, which has put pressure on Okongwu and his management team to act before the trade deadline.

Is Davis the crucial piece the Hawks need to advance further in the Eastern Conference playoffs?

Inside the Hawks, discussions about acquiring Davis have already taken place. Before the holidays, there was no concrete progress on this potential trade, as Okongwu’s team continues to map out the best trade strategy. Recently, Mark Stein hinted that the Hawks are willing to part with Richaun Holmes to facilitate the “right deal.” He also reported that the Hawks aim to trade Trae Young before this season’s deadline.

The Mavericks are also very open to trading Davis. The Hawks are prepared to part ways with Trae Young and have assets like Holmes to offer the Mavericks an attractive proposal.

So, will this trade actually happen?

A trade sending Davis to the Hawks is not only possible but could even turn into a blockbuster involving multiple teams. Siegel outlined a five-team deal including the Hawks, Mavericks, Kings, Warriors, and Nets: Davis heads to Atlanta, while stars like Trae Young, Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, Klay Thompson, and Jonathan Kuminga are also involved.

Details are as follows—

Hawks receive: Anthony Davis, LaVine, Russell

Mavericks receive: Domantas Sabonis, Richaun Holmes, Kennedy, 2026 Cavaliers first-round pick (via Hawks swap), 2028 Hawks/Jazz/Cavs first-round swap rights (taking Hawks’ best pick and Cavaliers/Jazz’s lesser pick), 2026 Celtics second-round pick (via Hawks)

Kings receive: Trae Young, Kuminga, Porzingis

Warriors receive: Claxton, Klay, Keon Ellis, 2026 Kings second-round pick

Nets receive: Moody, Hield, Jaxson-Davis, 2027 Warriors first-round pick (top-8 protected; if not conveyed, converts to 2028 unprotected first-round pick)
