The incident happened with 2 minutes and 6 seconds left in the third quarter. During a fierce contest, Alvarado fouled Williams. The Suns’ center immediately responded by pushing Alvarado from behind. Losing his composure, the Pelicans guard retaliated by pushing and landing a precise punch like a professional fighter, which led Williams to counter with similar punches. The situation quickly got out of control, forcing the referees to intervene.
After reviewing the footage, the referees issued technical fouls to both players and ejected them immediately. This incident was seen as the result of ongoing physical clashes and a tense atmosphere that had been simmering since the start of the game, with both teams consistently competing aggressively under the basket.
With the newly announced suspension, Mark Williams will miss the Suns’ next game on December 30th, when Arizona visits the Washington Wizards. This is considered a significant loss for the Suns as they need to maintain stability in the paint area.
Meanwhile, Jose Alvarado will sit out two consecutive Pelicans games, facing the New York Knicks on December 30th and the Chicago Bulls on New Year’s Day. The absence of this energetic and defensive guard is expected to impact the Pelicans’ pressing defense and overall game tempo.
