Is a third career collaboration possible? Harden responds about his relationship with Durant: They are still brothers now.

On December 25th Beijing time, Clippers star Harden explicitly affirmed that he and former teammate Durant still share a respectful brotherhood.

In a recent game, the Clippers beat the Rockets 128-108. The NBA’s official social media posted highlights of their face-off, with the caption: "‘They were brothers back in Oklahoma City...’ The Harden-Durant rivalry is always exciting! Clippers secure a home victory." Harden himself reposted the video, adding: "Still brothers now!"

The Harden-Durant duo is considered one of the NBA’s most evocative “what could have been” stories in recent years.

The Thunder won the championship in 2024 and have a promising long-term outlook, which somewhat eases the regret from Harden’s 2012 trade to the Rockets. In contrast, the Nets’ superteam experiment ended in failure, and the franchise is still cleaning up the aftermath.

During their time with the Nets, Harden and Durant’s relationship had begun to show cracks toward the end of their partnership.

In 2022, Bleacher Report journalist Fischer revealed that Durant had grown tired of Harden’s so-called commitment to the team. Fischer also cited sources saying that before Harden was traded to the 76ers, the two were in a cold war during the final months, causing distress for everyone involved.

Later, Durant himself requested to leave the Nets, which Harden seemed to find somewhat ironic.

Now, there is no reason for either to hold grudges. Harden has found a comfortable playing environment in Southern California, while Durant is focused on helping the Rockets improve. Over time, both have likely moved past the Nets’ unrealized ambitions.

Rumors have circulated that the Rockets could be Harden’s next destination, leaving open the possibility of a reunion with Durant. Will this really happen? Let’s wait and see.

So far this season, Durant averages 25.2 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. The Rockets hold a 17-10 record, ranking 6th in the West. Harden averages 26 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 8.1 assists, with the Clippers at 8-21, ranked 13th in the West.
