The Dodgers Nation, a media source dedicated to Dodgers news, reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers face difficulties in bolstering their infield and, by declining to offer a long-term contract, may have exited the competition for free agent Bo Bichette.
American journalist Doug McCain analyzed that the Dodgers' chances of signing Bichette have dropped from "40% down to 30%, then 20%," reaching a stage where "the possibility is now very slim." The report cites Bob Nightengale of USA Today, stating the Dodgers have no intention of signing Bichette to a long-term deal. If the infielder is unwilling to stay with an American League team, the only interested party might be the Philadelphia Phillies; within the AL, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox remain potential destinations.
Bichette was selected in the second round of the 2016 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays and debuted in the majors in 2019. Despite missing part of last season due to a left knee injury, he posted a .311 batting average with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs over 139 games. He demonstrated his value in the World Series by playing all seven games, recording hits in six of them, including a three-run homer off pitcher Shohei Ohtani, finishing the series with a .348 batting average.
