Left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who has started at least 27 games for the Washington Nationals each of the past three years, is reportedly being considered for trade during the offseason. It is said that the New York Mets attempted to negotiate with the Nationals, but were discouraged by the steep price demanded.
Gore was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Nationals in the deal involving Juan Soto, and since 2023 he has started at least 27 games each season. His best year came in 2024, when he appeared in 32 games, posting a 10-12 record with a 3.90 ERA and an adjusted ERA+ of 104, marking the first time he exceeded the league average.
Although Gore’s performance declined last season, with a 4.17 ERA over 159.2 innings in 30 starts, the news of the Nationals putting him on the trade market during the offseason has still attracted interest from multiple teams.
According to Mets On SI, the Mets have already made contact with the Nationals during the offseason, but Gore’s trade price remains very high, and the two sides are far from reaching an agreement.
Gore still has two years of contract control remaining, so any team interested in trading for him would need to offer top-tier prospects. However, Nolan McLean, who was selected for the USA Classic roster and leads the Mets’ farm system, along with second-ranked prospect Carson Benge, have both been designated as non-tradeable by the team.
