Now 44, Jinhui Cao became the first Taiwanese pitcher to play in MLB in 2003 and was also the first Taiwanese to earn a victory and record a hit in the major leagues.
In 2009, after returning to Taiwan, Cao joined the Brother Elephants and was regarded as an essential asset to the team. However, that same year, the shocking “Black Elephant Incident” match-fixing scandal erupted in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Although he was not prosecuted due to insufficient evidence, he ultimately parted ways with the Brother Elephants and was permanently banned and suspended from the league.
In 2015, Cao made a comeback to the major leagues by joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, once again demonstrating impressive pitching velocity.
After training in both MLB and CPBL, he reached speeds up to 160 km/h, effectively mixing fastballs, sliders, and changeups. Recently, during self-training, Cao still manages to pitch over 150 km/h.
The Fuzhou Strait Baseball Club issued a statement titled “He is about to take the field!” announcing that Jinhui Cao will represent the Fuzhou Strait team in competition on January 13th.
The CPB China City Baseball League officially released a player update stating: “Fuzhou Strait Baseball Club’s player number 48, Zhang Zongwei, was injured during training. After evaluation by the club’s medical team, it was confirmed he cannot continue participating in the remainder of the season. To ensure the team can complete the competition smoothly, the club has completed the registration for a new player according to league regulations. Player number 71, Jinhui Cao, will join the team. The registration has been approved by the organizing committee and takes effect immediately.”
