ESPN's Buster Olney reports that with multiple recent updates showing the New York Yankees and Cody Bellinger failing to agree on contract terms, the Yankees are now "assuming" Bellinger will not re-sign with them this offseason.
If New York considers itself out of the race for Bellinger, its next steps will be notably affected. Earlier rumors suggested that, unable to re-sign Bellinger, the Yankees are "more seriously considering" free agent infielder Bo Bichette and have been linked to several players including free agent right fielder Kyle Tucker. Olney also noted in his report that the Yankees are evaluating other options on the trade market.
Other potential suitors for Bellinger include his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as the Chicago Cubs.
