MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand revealed today through insiders that veteran right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek has come to terms with the St. Louis Cardinals. The organization has not formally announced the deal, with specifics to be disclosed following a medical evaluation.
At 34 years old, Stanek is a hard-throwing pitcher who has spent nine seasons in the majors with the Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, and New York Mets, appearing in 466 games with a career ERA of 3.85.
During the 2025 season with the New York Mets, Stanek posted a 5.30 ERA over 56 innings pitched, striking out 58 batters, while his four-seam fastball averaged 98.5 mph. His repertoire also includes a slider, splitter, and cutter.
Stanek’s career highlight came in 2022 with the Houston Astros, where he recorded a 1.15 ERA and 62 strikeouts across 54.2 innings, playing a key role in helping the team secure the World Series title.
Throughout his career, Stanek has accumulated 89 holds and 14 saves, and he is expected to serve as a crucial late-inning reliever in the Cardinals’ bullpen.
