Major League Baseball (MLB) revealed today plans to host a range of activities during the 2026 season in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, underscoring baseball’s status as America’s “national pastime.” The All-Star Game is set to be held in Philadelphia, the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed a quarter millennium ago.
The league unveiled a specially designed logo for the 2026 season, which will be featured across major and minor league events and related activities. The press release highlighted that these events represent the deep historical connection between baseball, known as the “National Pastime,” and the country.
Commissioner Rob Manfred emphasized, “With over 150 years of history, baseball has not only entertained generations of Americans but also served as a source of strength and stability during challenging times.” The league has officially themed the 2026 season as a “proud celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary.”
Philadelphia, the host city for this summer’s midseason All-Star Game, holds special historic significance. Interestingly, 50 years ago in 1976, during the nation’s bicentennial, Philadelphia also hosted the MLB All-Star Game.
