New York Yankees fans eagerly awaiting the end of the “reinforcement winter” still see no sign of relief. Although last week brought reports that General Manager Brian Cashman made a second offer to star outfielder Cody Bellinger and showed interest in acquiring Blue Jays’ star shortstop Bo Bichette, YES Network veteran reporter Jack Curry poured cold water on these rumors during a broadcast, bluntly stating that no major trades or signings are close to completion at this time.
Regarding the negotiations with Bellinger, Curry revealed that the so-called “second offer” seemed more like a move to align with agent Scott Boras’s “negotiation script.” Currently, the Yankees and Boras have significant disagreements over contract length and salary, with Boras using the Yankees’ offer as a baseline to push for a higher deal.
As for the rumors involving Blue Jays’ star Bichette, the market is generally skeptical. The outlet “Yanks Go Yard” reported that unless the Yankees first clear space by moving infielders like Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Ryan McMahon, there is no room to accommodate Bichette on the infield. This trade possibility is therefore rated as “low.” Additionally, talks about trading Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera have stalled because the Yankees are unwilling to part with top prospects.
Although Yankees fans hope Cashman will emulate the Dodgers’ “no-limit” approach to strengthening the team, the Yankees’ current strategy clearly leans toward caution. With the new season approaching, the Yankees’ progress on upgrades remains stagnant, likely leaving fans who yearn for a refreshed team feeling disappointed by this conservative approach.
