The Minnesota Twins today completed a trade sending minor league reliever Kade Bragg to the Miami Marlins for first baseman Eric Wagman, with the goal of optimizing the team's left-right hitting balance in corner outfield and designated hitter roles.
The 28-year-old Wagman, a right-handed batter, was Miami’s main first baseman last season. In his first full MLB season, he posted a slash line of .250/.296/.378 across 514 plate appearances, hitting 9 home runs and 28 doubles, with 53 RBIs. While with the Marlins, he also played left field, right field, third base, and served as a designated hitter. In 2024, when he debuted with the Los Angeles Angels, he primarily played third base.
Wagman has shown much stronger performance against left-handed pitchers compared to righties, with a career slash line of .267/.302/.429 in 202 plate appearances versus lefties. Given the Twins’ roster includes many left-handed hitters in corner outfield and DH roles, he is expected to mainly face left-handed pitching in Minnesota.
Wagman finished the season on a hot streak, delivering impressive stats over the final two months. From August 1 to the season’s end, he posted a slash line of .291/.341/.472 in 138 plate appearances, with 13 extra-base hits.
The Twins had previously signed switch-hitter Josh Bell via free agency. Bell is expected to play nearly every day, with his left-handed hitting being particularly strong. Additionally, the team has left-handed hitters Matt Wallner, Trevor Larnach, Kody Clemens, Alan Roden, as well as James Outman and Edouard Julien, who may see playing time. All these players can cover corner outfield or designated hitter duties.
The 24-year-old Bragg was the Twins’ 17th-round draft pick in 2023. In 2025, he performed steadily as a reliever across three levels in the Twins’ farm system, striking out 82 batters in 67.1 innings pitched.
To create roster space for Wagman, the Twins designated infielder Ryan Fitzgerald for assignment. The team now has seven days to trade him or place him on waivers.
