The battle for former Toronto Blue Jays star shortstop Bichette has reached a fever pitch.

The contest for Toronto Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette has heated up considerably. The 27-year-old Bichette delivered excellent stats in the 2025 season, hitting .311 with 18 homers and 94 RBIs. Besides the Blue Jays’ strong desire to retain him, the Boston Red Sox, a key rival in the AL East, have taken the lead by holding video conferences with him. According to veteran reporter Jon Heyman, the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs have also officially entered the race, creating a fierce five-team competition.

The Yankees currently face a vacancy at shortstop: their main player Anthony Volpe is struggling offensively and recovering from surgery. Although their farm system boasts top prospect George Lombard Jr., he is not yet ready to take over. The Yankees might use soon-to-be free agent Jazz Chisholm Jr. as a trade asset to acquire Bichette to man second base, planning to restructure once their 2027 rookie develops.

The Cubs are confronted with the impending contract expiration of star second baseman Nico Hoerner, who is attracting significant market attention, and are also considering Bichette as a long-term solution for their second base position.

The Dodgers’ approach is more strategic. Although shortstop Mookie Betts is currently established, veteran third baseman Max Muncy will become a free agent at the end of this year. The Dodgers plan to bring in Bichette initially as a second baseman, with the possibility of shifting him to third base later; alternatively, Betts could move back to the outfield while Bichette takes over shortstop. Recently, the Dodgers cleared a spot on their 40-man roster by trading Esteury Ruiz, paving the way for future reinforcements.

Bichette attempted a move to second base during last year’s World Series and publicly expressed his willingness to adapt defensively to meet team needs. This versatility has significantly increased his market value. With the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, and Blue Jays all vying for him, the destination of this star infielder, currently at his peak, will be a pivotal piece reshaping the Major League landscape this offseason.
