The New York Yankees have officially extended an offer to Cody Bellinger, aiming to continue their partnership.

Following the entry of Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger into free agency, the Yankees, in need of reinforcement at first base, have openly shown interest in renewing their contract with Bellinger. The latest updates reveal that the Yankees have presented an official offer to the slugger and are waiting for his response.

Bellinger was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Yankees after the 2024 season. In 2025, he posted a .272 batting average, hit 29 home runs, and had an OPS of 0.813. His home run total marked a new high since winning the National League MVP in 2019, with his batting average and OPS ranking as his second-best performances in that period. At just 30 years old, he is undoubtedly a key target for the Yankees to re-sign.

The specific contract amount offered by the Yankees has not yet been disclosed. According to MLB Trade Rumors, Bellinger is expected to secure a five-year deal worth $140 million. Notably, Bellinger opted out of his $25 million player option for 2026, meaning the Yankees have already seen a substantial return on their prior investment of $27.5 million (including related costs).

If the Yankees want to reach an agreement with Bellinger, who is seeking long-term security, they will likely need to offer a contract lasting at least five to six years.

So far this offseason, the Yankees’ roster improvements have mainly focused on re-signing their existing free agents: outfielder Trent Grisham (who has accepted a qualifying offer), infielder Amed Rosario, and pitchers Ryan Yarbrough and Paul Blackburn. Departing players have been relief pitchers, including bullpen mainstays Devin Williams and Luke Weaver.

Entering 2026, the Yankees have clearly intensified their efforts in the free-agent market. Besides Bellinger, the team is also monitoring Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette, but Bellinger remains their top priority. His versatility in playing both first base and the outfield allows him to rotate with Ben Rice at first base and share designated hitter duties with Giancarlo Stanton.
