The Los Angeles Angels are interested in acquiring star third baseman Arenado through a trade.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been among the busiest teams in the current offseason trade market, completing two trades that sent Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras to the Boston Red Sox. Their trading moves might still continue.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cardinals still prefer to trade their star third baseman Nolan Arenado, who has two years remaining on his contract. With the Angels reaching a buyout agreement with Anthony Rendon, they have emerged as a potential trade destination for Arenado. At 35 years old, Arenado would have to waive his no-trade clause in any deal. Notably, he is from Southern California, which could increase the chances of him joining the Angels.

A clear trade market for Arenado may only take shape after free-agent third basemen like Alex Bregman and Eugenio Suárez sign elsewhere. Rosenthal pointed out that the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are interested in Bregman, might also consider Arenado as an alternative option.

Another attractive trade target for the Cardinals is second baseman Brendan Donovan. The Athletic reports that the Boston Red Sox have discussed trading for Donovan to strengthen their infield. This offseason, Cardinals baseball operations president Chaim Bloom has completed two trades with his former team. However, the Red Sox will face competition—over the past few weeks, the Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, and Kansas City Royals have also been linked to Donovan.
