Only four days remain until the MLB bidding deadline, and Seibu Lions' star pitcher Tatsuya Imai still has not gotten any official proposals. The closing days will challenge the negotiation prowess of his agent Scott Boras, who is jokingly called the "vampire."
At 27 years old, Tatsuya Imai's bidding period is expected to end on January 3rd, Beijing time. If no contract is agreed upon by then, he will return to Nippon Professional Baseball. The American media outlet ClutchPoints noted that Imai has yet to receive any offers from teams.
This season, Imai played for the Seibu Lions, appearing in 24 games and pitching 163.2 innings. He posted an excellent record of 10 wins and 5 losses, with an ERA of 1.92, striking out 178 batters, and maintaining a low WHIP of 0.892.
It was previously estimated that Imai could secure a long-term deal worth around $200 million in his challenge to MLB, potentially surpassing the value of Munetaka Murakami’s two-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. However, as Murakami’s contract value dropped to just $34 million over two years, market expectations also declined, lowering Imai’s projected total contract value to about $150 million. Even so, no team has yet made an official offer.
Since Imai announced his bid for MLB, reports have indicated interest from up to ten teams, including the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. The Yankees, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago Cubs are considered the wealthiest contenders. However, the latest updates show that the MLB free agent market remains cautious about Imai, with no formal offers made so far.
