Chinese outfielder Liang Pei, who once hit a home run in the WBC, has announced his departure from the Beijing Tigers.

The 27-year-old Chinese outfielder Liang Pei, who hit a home run off Tokyo Yomiuri Giants pitcher Sho Horiguchi during the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), announced on December 26 via his personal social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he will be leaving his team, the Beijing Tigers, in the China Baseball League (CBL).

In his tweet, Liang Pei stated: "I have made the decision to part ways with the Beijing Tigers. Although there haven't been many updates recently, I am glad that everyone continues to follow Chinese baseball closely... Moving forward, I will keep sharing updates in various ways. At the same time, I look forward to invitations from different sides."

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Liang Pei played for the Chofu Youth Team and Tokai University Sugao High School before joining the Beijing Tigers. In the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he appeared in four games, recording 3 hits and 2 RBIs in 16 at-bats, with a batting average of .188. His home run against Japan’s team pitcher Sho Horiguchi was the only home run hit by China in all four games of the first round.

So where will Liang Pei go next? Joining the China City Baseball League (CPB), which kicks off on January 1 just a few days away, seems to be the best option. With Japan soon entering the New Year holiday, the chance of Liang returning there to compete is quite low. If the guess is correct, he might head to Shenzhen to participate in the CPB. Which team will he join—Shenzhen Blue Sox, Fuzhou Sea Hawks, Xiamen Dolphins, Shanghai Zhengda Dragons, or perhaps Changsha Black Skin Wangwang, which is not participating in the Spring League?
