Munetaka Murakami confirmed to represent the Japan Samurai team in the Classic Series; White Sox management expresses support for his release.

After officially joining the Chicago White Sox, Japanese power hitter Munetaka Murakami has clearly stated his intention to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC). In response, the White Sox management has pledged full support and explicitly indicated they expect to allow Murakami to compete for the Japan Samurai team.

Murakami signed a two-year deal with the White Sox valued at $34 million (about 240 million RMB) and chose number 5 as his jersey number. After signing, he expressed his desire to participate: "I want to take part in the World Baseball Classic, and that will not change. I communicated with the team based on the premise that I would be able to play."

In the last Classic, Murakami hit a walk-off hit in the semifinal against Mexico, helping Japan advance to the final and eventually win the championship. As one of the key power hitters for the Japan Samurai team, his offensive contributions are vital to the squad.

Regarding Murakami’s statement, White Sox General Manager Chris Getz responded, "We expect to let him participate," demonstrating the team's supportive stance. The specific schedule is not yet finalized; Murakami plans to report to the White Sox spring training camp in February next year, then proceed to Osaka for the Japanese national team’s training camp.
