The young talent from the old Hải Dương region made a spectacular surge in the final month of the 2025 season.
The Women's Singles ranking released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on December 30, 2025, highlights a remarkable phenomenon in Vietnamese badminton: 14-year-old Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền jumped 64 places to reach world rank 328.
Including the previous week, Thu Huyền advanced 650 places, meaning that in just the last two weeks of the year, this young Vietnamese badminton talent soared 714 places — an extraordinary and commendable achievement.
Notably, Thu Huyền has not yet turned 15 but has already achieved one of the most impressive rises ever seen in Vietnamese badminton.
Just over a month ago, Thu Huyền was ranked outside the top 1,000 globally — a predictable position for a young player newly entering the international scene. However, the tournament series in Bangladesh in December 2025 completely transformed her ranking profile.
The first turning point came at the Bangladesh International Challenge. Starting from the qualifiers, Thu Huyền defeated several seeded players to reach the semifinals. This performance propelled her up by 650 places to world rank 392 — a rare leap at the elite badminton level.
Immediately following this, Thu Huyền stayed in Dhaka to compete in the Bangladesh International Series and maintained her impressive form. She won four consecutive matches to reach the quarterfinals, despite consistently facing opponents who were much older and ranked significantly higher than her.
In December alone, the 14-year-old secured a total of nine international match victories. This outstanding streak helped the 2011-born player climb from rank 392 to 328 in the final rankings of the season.
With her current ranking, Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền has surpassed many senior players to become Vietnam’s fourth-ranked female singles player (per BWF rankings), trailing only Nguyễn Thùy Linh, Vũ Thị Trang, and Bùi Thị Bích Phương.
